Color Run Brings Fun To Granville Central School District
When the calendar turns from winter to spring, students and teachers alike start thinking about ways to get outside and enjoy the warm weather. This year, the Granville Parent Teacher Organization decided to provide a new, fun reason to get students in the district outside.
The PTO put on the first Granville Color Run this year, with the idea for the event coming from the organization looking for ways to bring the community together that would also get everyone moving. The Color Run, which was held at Granville Elementary, was open to students of all grades and community members of all ages, and the early response to the run has been tremendous.
“Everything we’ve heard so far has been nothing but positive,” said the PTO Officers. “Students, families, and community members were encouraging of everyone who ran, and our students were so happy to see their teachers and principals cheering them on.”
Planning for the Color Run started in the winter, with organizers making sure they could secure race kits, color powder, and accessories needed to make the event fun for everyone. Participants were invited to walk, run, or jog, but most importantly - have a good time.
“The purpose of the event is to bring everyone together for a day of fun,” our PTO officers said. “It’s not about being the best. It’s about having the best time. We want to continue to identify and plan events that bring all of Granville together and events that can simultaneously support our students and our schools.”
Planning is already underway for next year’s Color Run. The PTO is also thinking ahead to events they have coming up later this year, including the popular Trunk or Treat event in October that brings out between 600-800 people each year. Other events on the PTO’s planning calendar include the Coin Drop to benefit Backpacks for Hunger Program in November, a family movie night in the wintertime, and the annual Science and Art Fair.
“The Parent Teacher Organization is growing bigger every year and we really look forward to hosting more events to bring the community and schools together,” said the PTO officers. “We encourage anyone in the community to attend our monthly meetings. We’re really just a group of parents looking to create memories for our students and their families, and the more input we have, the better.”
