Good Afternoon,
Working with our law enforcement partners from the Granville PD, Washington County Sheriff's Department, Fair Haven PD, and NYS Police, the district has been thoroughly searched, including the use of specially trained K-9 units, and it has been cleared of any potential threats.
Based on the initial investigation, the threat received by Granville was also received in school districts throughout Washington County and New York State. Any threat against the school district is taken extremely seriously, and every available resource was used to search our facilities and ensure the building is safe for reopening. Unfortunately, we could not complete that important task in a timeline that allowed our buses to depart for student pickup for our 2-hour delay. As a result, we did need to close for the day.
I have been in contact with multiple agencies, and I am hopeful that the individual(s) involved in these activities will be apprehended and punished to the fullest extent of the law. Swatting threats such as this have a phenomenal impact on our students, programs, and daily operations. Every effort will be made to get to the bottom of it.
I appreciate your patience and support as we go through this challenging situation. I would also like to thank all of the members of the law enforcement community that responded to the district today, as well as our administrators and a support staff member that assisted in clearing the buildings.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the district at 518-642-1051.
My apologies for this interruption to your child's education,
Tom
